And recite to them the news of Ibrahim. 69 When he said to his father and his people, "What do you worship?" 70 They said: We worship idols, and are ever devoted unto them. 71 He said, "Do they hear you when you supplicate? 72 Or do they profit you or cause you harm? 73 They said: Nay, we found our fathers doing so. 74 (Abraham) said, "Do you know that what you worship 75 you, and your elderly fathers? 76 They are enemies to me except the Lord of all the Worlds 77 He created me and He will guide me. 78 He who gives me food and drink; 79 He who cures me when I am ill; 80 And He Who will cause me to die, then give me life; 81 "And who, I hope, will forgive me my faults on the day of Judgment. 82 My Lord! Vouchsafe me wisdom and unite me to the righteous. 83 and appoint me a tongue of truthfulness among the others. 84 and make me one of the inheritors of the Garden of Bliss; 85 and forgive my father, for he was among the astray. 86 "And let me not be in disgrace on the Day when (men) will be raised up;- 87 The Day whereon will profit neither substance nor sons. 88 [and when] only he [will be happy] who comes before God with a heart free of evil!" 89 And the garden shall be brought near for those who guard (against evil), 90 "And to those straying in Evil, the Fire will be placed in full view; 91 It will be said to them: 'Where is that you worshipped, 92 beside Allah? Can they be of any help to you, or even be of any help to themselves?" 93 And they will be pitched into it, they and the perverse 94 And the hosts of Iblis all together. 95 They shall say while they contend therein: 96 they will say, "By God, we were in clear error 97 "'When we held you as equals with the Lord of the Worlds; 98 It is none but those steeped in guilt who led us into this error, 99 And now we have none to intercede for us, 100 no caring friend. 101 If only we could return we would be among the believers." 102 Most surely there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe. 103 Verily your Lord is mighty and merciful. 104
