The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By oath of the night when it covers 1 And the day when it shines in brightness, 2 And [by] He who created the male and female, 3 Lo! your effort is dispersed (toward divers ends). 4 As for him who gives (in charity) and keeps his duty to Allah and fears Him, 5 and confirms the reward most fair, 6 We shall ease the way of fortune for him. 7 But as for he who withholds and considers himself free of need 8 And rejects goodness, 9 So We will very soon provide him hardship. 10 And what will his wealth benefit him when he goes down (in destruction). 11 Indeed, [incumbent] upon Us is guidance. 12 and, behold, Ours is [the dominion over] the life to come as well as [over] this earlier part [of your life]: 13 I have now warned you of the Blazing Fire, 14 None except the most wicked will enter it. 15 Who had denied and turned away. 16 But save him who fears 17 Who gives away his wealth, purifying himself 18 And is under no one's obligation to return his favour, 19 but only out of a longing for the countenance of his Sustainer, the All-Highest: 20 and such, indeed, shall in time be well-pleased. 21
