And recite to them the news of Ibrahim. 69 [how it was] when he asked his father and his people, "What is it that you worship?" 70 They said: we worship idols, and we are unto them ever devoted 71 He said: Do they hear you when ye cry? 72 Or do they profit you or cause you harm? 73 They answered: "No; but we found our forefathers doing so." 74 Thereupon, Abraham said: "Have you seen (with your eyes) those whom you have been worshipping, 75 "You and your ancient fathers? 76 they are all my enemies, not so the Lord of the Universe, 77 "Who created me, and it is He Who guides me; 78 "And the One Who feeds me and gives me to drink." 79 "And when I am ill, it is He who cures me. 80 He will cause me to die and will bring me back to life. 81 "And the One Who, upon Whom I pin my hopes, will forgive me my mistakes on the Day of Judgement." 82 Lord, grant me authority. Join me to the righteous ones. 83 And grant me an honourable mention in later generations; 84 "Make me one of the inheritors of the Garden of Bliss; 85 Forgive me and my father: He was surely among those who went astray. 86 And disgrace me not on the day when they are raised 87 on the Day of Judgment when neither wealth nor children will be of any benefit 88 "But only he (will prosper) that brings to Allah a sound heart; 89 For, [on that Day,] paradise will be brought within sight of the God-conscious, 90 And the (Hell) Fire will be placed in full view of the erring. 91 who will be asked, "What did you worship 92 "Instead of Allah? Will they help you or retaliate?" 93 Then will they be hurled therein, they and the seducers 94 and the hosts of Iblis - all together. 95 And they, while contending therein, shall say: 96 "'By Allah, we were truly in an error manifest, 97 when we made you equal with the Lord of the Worlds. 98 No one but the sinners led us astray. 99 So now we have no intercessors 100 Nor a true friend; 101 Would that we could have a chance to live again so that we might become believers." 102 Surely in that is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 103 And most surely your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful. 104
