Observedest thou him who turned away? 33 And gave a little and [then] refrained? 34 Does he [claim to] have knowledge of something that is beyond the reach of human perception, so that he can see [it clearly]? 35 Nay, is he not acquainted with what is in the Books of Moses- 36 And of Abraham who fulfilled his trust? -- 37 That no laden one shall bear another's load, 38 and that man shall have nothing but what he has striven for, 39 And that his effort will soon be scrutinised? 40 then, he shall be recompensed for it in full repayment 41 and that with thy Sustainer is the beginning and the end [of all that exists]; 42 And that it is He Who causeth to laugh and causeth to weep. 43 It is He who causes death and gives life. 44 And that He created pairs, the male and the female 45 From the small seed when it is adapted 46 And that only upon Him is the next revival? 47 It is He who grants people temporary and durable wealth. 48 That He is the Lord of Sirius (the Mighty Star); 49 and that it is He who destroyed the ancient [tribes of] Ad 50 And Thamud - and He did not spare [them] - 51 And also the people of Nuh aforetime. Verily they were even greater wrong-doers and more contumacious. 52 And the overturned towns He hurled down 53 And covered them by that which He covered. 54 Then which of thy Lord's bounties disputest thou? 55 This is a warner of the warners of old. 56 What is to come is imminent. 57 [although] none but God can unveil it.... 58 Do you then wonder at this announcement? 59 And you laugh and do not weep 60 Will you occupy yourselves simply in merriment? 61 Prostrate yourselves before Allah, and serve Him. ۩ 62
