In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you who have wrapped up in your garments! 1 Stand up for worship during the night, except for some part of it. 2 half of it, or reduce it a little; 3 or add to it a little; and recite the Qur'an slowly and distinctly. 4 We shall soon entrust to you a message heavy (with solemnity). 5 Surely the rising by night is the firmest way to tread and the best corrective of speech. 6 During the day, you are preoccupied with many activities. 7 Remember the name of your Lord, and devote yourself to Him wholeheartedly. 8 Lord of the East and the West; there is no Allah save Him; so choose thou Him alone for thy defender - 9 and endure with patience whatever people may say [against thee,] and avoid them with a comely avoidance. 10 Leave Me to those who cry lies, those prosperous ones, and respite them a little, 11 Indeed We have heavy fetters and a blazing fire. 12 And food that chokes, and a painful punishment. 13 One Day the earth and the mountains will be in violent commotion. And the mountains will be as a heap of sand poured out and flowing down. 14 Lo! We have sent unto you a messenger as witness against you, even as We sent unto Pharaoh a messenger. 15 But Pharaoh disobeyed Our Messenger, so We seized him with a terrible seizing. 16 Then how can you fear, if you disbelieve, a Day that will make the children white- haired? 17 On that day, the heavens will be rent asunder. This is the decree of God which has already been ordained. 18 Lo! This is a Reminder. Let him who will, then, choose a way unto his Lord. 19
