Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Hast thou received the story of the Enveloper? 1 Some faces, that Day, will be humiliated (in the Hell-fire, i.e. the faces of all disbelievers, Jews and Christians, etc.). 2 troubled and tired as a result of their deeds in the past. 3 Entering into burning fire, 4 given to drink from a boiling spring. 5 They will have no food except bitter thorn, 6 Which neither nourishes nor avails against hunger. 7 Many a face will be in serenity on that day. 8 well-pleased with [the fruit of] their striving, 9 In a lofty Paradise. 10 hearing there no babble; 11 In it is a flowing spring. 12 [and] there will be thrones [of happiness] raised high, 13 And drinking-cups ready placed, 14 cushions ranged, 15 and carpets outspread. 16 Do they never reflect on the camels and how they were created, 17 And at the sky, how it is raised aloft? 18 And the hills, how they are set up? 19 And at the earth, how it is outspread? 20 And so, [O Prophet,] exhort them; thy task is only to exhort: 21 You do not have full control over them. 22 However, those who turn away and disbelieve, 23 Him Allah shall torment with the greatest torment. 24 To Us is surely their returning; 25 and verily, It is for Us to call them to account. 26
