Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the break of Day 1 And the Ten Nights, 2 by the odd and even (8th and 9th Dhil-hajj) 3 And by the night when it departs. 4 Why is there an oath in this, for the intelligent? 5 Hast thou not seen how thy Lord did with Ad, 6 [With] Iram - who had lofty pillars, 7 the like of which was never created in the land, 8 And with the Thamud (people), who cut out (huge) rocks in the valley?- 9 And with Pharaoh of the tent pegs 10 Who committed inordinacy in the cities, 11 and worked much corruption therein? 12 Thus, your Lord afflicted them with torment; 13 Indeed, your Lord is in observation. 14 As for man, whenever his Lord tries him and then is gracious and provides good things for him, he says: "My Lord has been gracious to me." 15 But when He tries him (differently), then straitens to him his means of subsistence, he says: My Lord has disgraced me. 16 Nay, nay! but ye honour not the orphans! 17 and do not urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And ye devour inheritance - all with greed, 19 And you love wealth with immense love. 20 No! When the earth has been leveled - pounded and crushed - 21 And thy Lord shall come and the angels, rank on rank. 22 On that day, hell will be brought closer and the human being will come to his senses, but this will be of no avail to him. 23 He will say: "Ah! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my (Future) Life!" 24 On that day the punishment of God and His detention will be unparalleled. 25 None bindeth as He then will bind. 26 'O soul at peace, 27 return to your Lord wellpleased, wellpleasing. 28 Enter thou among My righteous bondmen! 29 into My Paradise. 30
