Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ I do call to witness this City;- 1 And thou shalt be allowed in yonder city 2 and [I call to witness] parent and offspring: 3 We have indeed created man surrounded by hardships. 4 Thinks he that none can overcome him? 5 He boasts, "I have spent wealth abundant!" 6 Does man think that no one saw him? 7 Did We not make two eyes for him? 8 And a tongue and two lips, 9 And shown him the two ways (good and evil)? 10 But he has not attempted the ascent. 11 Would that you knew what Aqaba is! 12 It is the freeing of a slave; 13 Or, feeding, in a day of privation, 14 The orphan near in relationship, 15 or a needy man in misery; 16 then that he become of those who believe and counsel each other to be steadfast, and counsel each other to be merciful. 17 Their place will be on the right hand. 18 But those who reject Our Signs, they are the (unhappy) Companions of the Left Hand. 19 The Fire will be shut over them (i.e. they will be enveloped by the Fire without any opening or window or outlet. 20
God the Almighty always says the truth.
