The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ About what are they asking one another? 1 About the awesome tidings [of resurrection] 2 that they are in utter disagreement? 3 (What they think is certainly despicable!). They will soon come to know (the reality). 4 Again, no indeed; they shall soon know! 5 Have We not made the earth as a place to rest 6 and the mountains as pegs? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 and gave you repose in sleep, 9 made the night as a covering, 10 And made the day as a means of subsistence? 11 And We have built above you seven strong (heavens), 12 And We made a shining lamp, 13 And sent down, from the rain clouds, pouring water 14 to make the seeds, plants, 15 And orchards full of trees and interlacing boughs. 16 Surely the Day of Decision is an appointed time, 17 the day the Trumpet is blown, and you shall come in troops, 18 The heavens will have openings like doors. 19 The mountains will be driven away and become like mirages. 20 Surely the Hell is an ambush, 21 The rebels' abode, 22 therein to tarry for ages, 23 They shall not taste therein cool nor drink 24 Save boiling water and a paralysing cold: 25 a fitting requital, 26 For verily, they used not to look for a reckoning. 27 and they rejected outright Our signs; 28 And everything We have recorded in a book. 29 (They will be told), "Suffer, We shall only increase the torment for you". 30
