The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
One demanding, demanded the chastisement which must befall 1 the unbelievers which none can prevent. 2 From Allah, the Lord of the ways of ascent. 3 The angels and Jibreel, ascend towards Him – the punishment will befall on a day which spans fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore, [O believers] behave with seemly patience. 5 Verily! They see it (the torment) afar off, 6 Whereas We see it impending. 7 The day when the sky will be like molten silver. 8 and the mountains will be like tufts of wool, 9 And no friend inquires after friend 10 (Though) they shall be made to see each other. The guilty one would fain redeem himself from the chastisement of that day by (sacrificing) his children, 11 and his spouse and his brother, 12 And the nearest of his kinsfolk who gave him shelter, 13 and of whoever [else] lives on earth, all of them - so that he could but save himself. 14 No, in truth, it is a Furnace! 15 that will strip off the scalp. 16 calling him who drew back and turned away, 17 And amasses (wealth) then shuts it up. 18 ۞ Verily man is formed impatient. 19 Irritable (discontented) when evil touches him; 20 And niggardly when good befalls him 21 Not so those devoted to Prayer;- 22 Those who remain constant in their Salat (prayers); 23 and in whose possessions there is a due share, acknowledged [by them,] 24 For him who begs and for him who is denied (good) 25 and who accept as true the [coming of the] Day of Judgment; 26 And those who fear the punishment of their Lord, -- 27 Verily the torment of their Lord is not a thing to feel secure from. 28 And those who guard their chastity, 29 Except with their wives and the (women slaves and captives) whom their right hands possess, for (then) they are not to be blamed, 30 but any who seeks to go beyond that, it is indeed they who are the transgressors, 31 and those who are faithful to their trusts and to their pledges; 32 And those who are upright in their testimonies, 33 and who take due care of their Prayer: 34 Those shall be in gardens, honored. 35
