The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 Rise up and warn! 2 And your Lord (Allah) magnify! 3 And your garments do purify, 4 And banish all trepidation. 5 And bestow not favors that you may receive again with increase, 6 and be patient unto thy Lord. 7 For when the trumpet blows 8 that day will be a harsh day, 9 for the unbelievers not easy. 10 Leave Me alone with he whom I created 11 and to whom I have granted resources in abundance, 12 And sons abiding in his presence 13 And made life smooth and comfortable for him! 14 And yet he desires that I should add more! 15 Never! For he is an enemy to Our signs! 16 I shall oblige him to (climb a slippery mountain in the Hell-fire called As-Sa'ud, or to) face a severe torment! 17 Verily he considered, and devised. 18 So let him be cursed! How he plotted! 19 What an evil plan he has made! 20 Then he looked, 21 frowned and scowled; 22 and in the end he turns his back [on Our message,] and glories in his arrogance, 23 and said: 'This is no more than traced sorcery; 24 Nothing more than the speech of a man!" 25 Soon I will cast him into hell. 26 And what have you understood, what hell is! 27 It leaves nothing, nor does it spare; 28 making [all truth] visible to mortal man. 29 Over it are nineteen. 30 We have made only angels as the keepers of the fire (for they are the strongest in carrying out Our commands). Our informing (people) of the numbers of these angels is a trial for the disbelievers. It gives more certainty to the people of the Book and strengthens the faith of the believers. The people of the Book and the believers have no doubt about it. We have fixed the number to make the disbelievers and those whose hearts are sick say, "What does God mean by such a parable?" Thus, God guides and causes to go astray whomever He wants. No one knows about the army of your Lord except He Himself. This parable is a reminder for mankind. 31
