Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the Dawn, 1 by the Ten Nights, 2 And [by] the even [number] and the odd 3 And by the night when it departeth, 4 Is there not an evidence in this for those who have sense? 5 Bethinkest thou not in what wise thy Lord did with the 'A'ad: 6 Of Eram with lofty pillars (erected as signposts in the desert), 7 the like of which was never created in the land, 8 And with the Thamud (people), who cut out (huge) rocks in the valley?- 9 (Also consider the people of) the Pharaoh who victimized people by placing them on the stake, 10 who transgressed in the countries of the world 11 And multiplied therein corruption. 12 Therefore did thy Lord pour on them a scourge of diverse chastisements: 13 Verily, your Lord is Ever Watchful (over them). 14 As for man, whenever his Lord trieth him by honouring him, and is gracious unto him, he saith: My Lord honoureth me. 15 However, when his Lord tests him by a measured amount of sustenance, he says, "God has disgraced me". 16 By no means! But ye honour not the orphan, 17 Nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And you consume inheritance, devouring [it] altogether, 19 And love wealth with abounding love. 20 Nay, but when the earth is ground to atoms, grinding, grinding, 21 and your Lord comes with the angels, rank upon rank, 22 and Gehenna (Hell) is brought near on that Day the human will remember, and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He will say, "Oh, would that I had provided beforehand for my life!" 24 None punisheth as He will punish on that day! 25 nor will any bind as He binds. 26 But ah! thou soul at peace! 27 return unto thy Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing! 28 Enter thou among My righteous bondmen! 29 "Yea, enter thou My Heaven! 30
