He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ HE FROWNED and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 Or be admonished, and the admonition profit him? 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 So you are after him! 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 And he feareth 9 you ignore him. 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 and whosoever wills, shall remember it. 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 most exalted and purified, 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 From what did He create him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 Then, when He willed, He brought him out. (As during the night of Holy Prophet’s ascension, when all the Prophets gathered behind him in the Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. Or when Allah will raise everyone on the Day of Resurrection.) 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 and let the earth to break open 26 to yield therein corn, 27 together with grapes and vegetables, 28 Olives and dates, 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 his mother and his father, 35 his consort, his sons, 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 Dust shall cover them 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
