The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O you enveloped in your cloak! 1 arise and give warning! 2 And proclaim the Purity of your Lord. 3 And your garments do purify, 4 stay away from sins 5 do not bestow a favour in the expectation of receiving more in return; 6 and persevere for your Lord's sake. 7 For when the trumpet blows 8 That shall be - that Day - a day hard. 9 For the unbelievers, anything but easy. 10 Leave Me (to deal) with him whom I created lonely, 11 and designated for him ample wealth, 12 And children present [with him] 13 and whom I have provided with every resource, 14 Yet he desires that I should give more. 15 By no means! He has been stubbornly hostile to Our revelation: 16 Anon I shall afflict him with a fearful woe. 17 He reflected and then hatched a scheme. 18 death seized him, how was his determining! 19 Then may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 20 He looked (at others); 21 frowned and scowled, 22 Then he turned back and was haughty; 23 Then he said: "This is nothing but magic from that of old; 24 "This is nothing but the word of a human being!" 25 Anon shall I roast him into the Scorching Fire. 26 And what knoweth thou that which the Scorching Fire? 27 It shall not spare, nor leave. 28 It glows and burns the skin. 29 Above it are nineteen guards. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire. We have specified their number only as a trial for those who are bent on denying the truth, so that those who were given the Book might gain in certainty, and those who believe might increase in faith -- and so that neither those who have been given the Scripture nor the believers might have any doubts, and that those sick at heart and those who deny the truth might ask, "What does God mean by this parable?" In this way, God lets go astray whom He wills, and guides whom He wills. And none knows the forces of your Lord but He. This is but a Reminder for man. 31
