The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ Of what do they question one another? 1 (It is) of the awful tidings, 2 Concerning which they are in disagreement. 3 But they will soon come to know. 4 again, no indeed; soon will they come to know. 5 Have We not made the earth an expanse, 6 and the mountains as pegs (to anchor the earth)? 7 And We have created you in pairs (male and female, tall and short, good and bad, etc.). 8 And have appointed your sleep for repose, 9 made the night as a covering, 10 And made the day as a means of subsistence? 11 And We have built above you seven strong (heavens), 12 and We appointed a blazing lamp 13 And from the wind-driven clouds We send down waters pouring in abundance, 14 That We may produce from it grain and vegetation, 15 and gardens luxuriant. 16 Surely the day of decision is (a day) appointed: 17 On that day the trumpet will be sounded and you will come (to Us) in huge groups. 18 And the heaven is opened and becometh as gates, 19 And the hills are set in motion and become as a mirage. 20 Surely, Hell lies in wait, 21 The rebels' abode, 22 In it shall they remain for a long time. 23 Nothing cool shall they taste therein, nor any drink, 24 But boiling and intensely cold water, 25 as a fitting recompense for their deeds. 26 They indeed hoped not for a reckoning, 27 having given the lie to Our messages one and all: 28 We have kept account of everything in a book. 29 'Taste! We shall not increase you except in punishment' 30
