And rehearse to them (something of) Abraham's story. 69 [how it was] when he asked his father and his people, "What is it that you worship?" 70 They replied, "We worship idols and shall continue to worship them". 71 He said, "Do they hear you when you supplicate? 72 Or do they benefit or harm you? 73 They said, "In fact we found our forefathers doing likewise." 74 Said [Abraham]: "Have you, then, ever considered what it is that you have been worshipping 75 "You and your ancient fathers? 76 Yet they are my enemies except the Lord of all the worlds 77 Who created me and Who guides me; 78 It is He who gives me food and drink 79 And heals me when I am sick, 80 Who will cause me to die and then will again restore me to life; 81 And Who, I ardently hope, will forgive me my sin on the Day of Judgment. 82 "O my Lord! bestow wisdom on me, and join me with the righteous; 83 give me a good name among later generations; 84 And make me one of the inheritors of the Paradise of Delight; 85 And forgive my father, verily he is of the erring; 86 "And do not disgrace me on the day when everyone will be raised." 87 the day when neither wealth nor sons shall profit 88 except for him who comes to God with a pure heart. 89 Paradise will be brought near those who take heed for themselves and follow the straight path; 90 And hell will be revealed for the astray. 91 And it shall be said unto them where is that which ye were wont to worship? 92 "'Besides Allah? Can they help you or help themselves?' 93 Then they will be thrown headlong into Hell, both they and the misguided ones, 94 And the soldiers of Iblees, all together. 95 They shall say, as they dispute there one with another, 96 "By Allah, we were surely in clear error 97 when we considered you equal to the Lord of the Universe. 98 It is none but those steeped in guilt who led us into this error, 99 And now we have none to intercede for us, 100 and no sincere friend. 101 Would that we had a second chance [in life,] so that we could be among the believers!" 102 Verily! In this is indeed a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 103 Your Lord is certainly Majestic and All-merciful. 104
