The Thamud belied the sent ones 141 When their brother Saleh said to them: "Will you not take heed?" 142 “I am indeed a trustworthy Noble Messenger of Allah to you.” 143 So fear Allah and obey me. 144 And I ask of you no hire therefor; MY hire is but with the Lord of the worlds. 145 (Do you think) you will be left secure here 146 "Gardens and Springs, 147 And cornfields and palm-trees having fine spadices? 148 You hew dwellings in mountains and exult in that. 149 “Therefore fear Allah and obey me.” 150 and obey not the commandment of the prodigal 151 Who make mischief in the land and do not act aright. 152 They replied: "You are nothing but one of those who are bewitched; 153 you are no different from a mortal like us. So produce a sign if you are truthful." 154 He said, 'This is a she-camel; to her a draught and to you a draught, on a day appointed, 155 And do not touch her with harm, lest you be seized by the punishment of a terrible day." 156 But they hamstrung her and then regretted it. 157 So the torment took hold of them: verily herein is a sign, but most of them are not believers. 158 And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful. 159
