Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Ha. Mim. 1 By the Book that makes things clear, 2 Surely We revealed it on a blessed night surely We are ever warning-- 3 On that night is made distinct every precise matter - 4 an order from Us. We are ever sending. 5 As Mercy from thy Lord: for He hears and knows (all things); 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them; if you people believe. 7 La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He). It is He Who gives life and causes death, your Lord and the Lord of your fore-fathers. 8 In fact, the unbelievers have doubts because of excessive involvement in worldly affairs. 9 WAIT, THEN, for the Day when the skies shall bring forth a pall of smoke which will make obvious [the approach of the Last Hour,] 10 Enveloping the people: this will be a Penalty Grievous. 11 [They will say], "Our Lord, remove from us the torment; indeed, we are believers." 12 How can there be an admonition unto them, when surely there came unto them an apostle manifest! 13 whereupon they turned their backs on him and said, "Taught [by others] is he, a madman"? 14 Lo! We withdraw the torment a little. Lo! ye return (to disbelief). 15 But on that Day We will assault them most mightily, and then We shall revenge! 16 ۞ And before them We indeed tried the people of Firaun, and an Honourable Noble Messenger came to them. 17 Saying: Deliver to me the servants of Allah, surely I am a faithful apostle to you, 18 "And exalt not yourselves against God: for, verily, I come unto you with a manifest authority [from Him]; 19 I have taken refuge in my Lord and your Lord against your stoning me to death. 20 And if ye put no faith in me, then let me go. 21 But then, [when they beset him with their enmity,] he called out to his Sustainer, "These are [indeed] people lost in sin!" 22 And [God said]: "Go thou forth with My servants by night, for you will surely be pursued; 23 And leave the sea behind at rest, for lo! they are a drowned host. 24 How many were the gardens and the watersprings that they left behind, 25 And cornfields and noble places! 26 And the comfort they enjoyed. 27 Thus (it was)! And We made other people inherit them (i.e. We made the Children of Israel to inherit the kingdom of Egypt). 28 And neither heaven nor earth shed a tear over them: nor were they given a respite (again). 29
