The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
The Last Hour draws near and the moon is split asunder. 1 And if they behold a portent they turn away and say: Prolonged illusion. 2 They also gave the lie to (the splitting asunder of the moon) and only followed their desires. Yet everything is destined to reach an end. 3 And withal, there has come unto them many a tiding that should have restrained [their arrogance]: 4 Wisdom consummate. But warnings avail not. 5 So withdraw from them (O Muhammad) on the day when the Summoner summoneth unto a painful thing. 6 they will come forth from their graves, with their eyes downcast, [swarming about] like locusts scattered [by the wind,] 7 Hastening toward the summoner; the disbelievers say: This is a hard day. 8 ۞ The people of Noah denied before them, and they denied Our servant and said, "A madman," and he was repelled. 9 Thereupon he called out to his Sustainer, "Verily, I am defeated; come Thou, then, to my succour!" 10 Then opened We the gates of heaven with pouring water 11 and We caused the earth to burst with gushing springs: so that the waters met for a purpose which had been decreed. 12 And We carried him on a (ship) made of planks and nails, 13 and it floated under Our eyes: a recompense for him who had been rejected with ingratitude. 14 And indeed, We have caused such [floating vessels] to remain forever a sign [of Our grace unto man]: who, then, is willing to take it to heart? 15 Then how (terrible) was My Torment and My Warnings? 16 And assuredly We have made the Qur'an easy for admonition; is there then any one who would be admonished? 17 'Aad denied; and how [severe] were My punishment and warning. 18 Indeed, We sent upon them a screaming wind on a day of continuous misfortune, 19 it swept the people away as though they were palm-trunks uprooted: 20 How then were My punishment and My warnings! 21 And in truth We have made the Qur'an easy to remember; but is there any that remembereth? 22
