The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
O you (Muhammad SAW) enveloped (in garments)! 1 arise and give warning! 2 And your Lord do magnify, 3 and purify your robes, 4 And all defilement shun! 5 and do not think that by doing such deeds, you have done a great favor to God. 6 but unto thy Sustainer turn in patience. 7 For when the trumpet shall sound, 8 So that is a tough day. 9 not an easy day for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me with him whom I created alone, 11 And gave him vast wealth. 12 and children living in his presence, 13 and made all things smooth for him; 14 Then he desires that I should add more. 15 By no means! For to Our Signs he has been refractory! 16 On him I shall impose a fearful doom. 17 Indeed, he thought and deliberated. 18 and woe to him; how he plotted! 19 Let him be destroyed. How he calculated! 20 Then looked he, 21 frowned and scowled; 22 Then turned his back and waxed proud, 23 and said: “This (Qur'an) is merely a sorcery of yore; 24 'this is nothing but mortal speech.' 25 Anon shall I roast him into the Scorching Fire. 26 And what will make you know exactly what Hell-fire is? 27 It leaves and spares no one and nothing. 28 Burning the skins! 29 Over it are nineteen keepers. 30 For We have caused none but angelic powers to lord over the fire [of hell]; and We have not caused their number to be aught but a trial for those who are bent on denying the truth - to the end that they who have been granted revelation aforetime might be convinced [of the truth of this divine writ]; and that they who have attained to faith [in it] might grow yet more firm in their faith; and that [both] they who have been granted the earlier revelation and they who believe [in this one] might be freed of all doubt; and that they in whose hearts is disease and they who deny the truth outright might ask, "What does [your] God mean by this parable?" In this way God lets go astray him that wills [to go astray,] and guides aright him that wills [to be guided]. And none can comprehend thy Sustainers forces save Him alone: and all this is but a reminder to mortal man. 31
