The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ OF WHAT ARE they asking one another? 1 (Is it) of the great announcement 2 Concerning which they differ. 3 Nay, but in time they will come to understand [it]! 4 Again, no indeed; they shall soon know! 5 Have We not made the earth as a place to rest 6 And the mountains as stakes? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 And made sleep for you to rest, 9 And made the night a cover. 10 And made the day as a means of subsistence? 11 And (have We not) built over you the seven firmaments, 12 And placed (therein) a Light of Splendour? 13 and sent down heavy rains from the clouds 14 So that We bring forth thereby corn and vegetation. 15 And orchards full of trees and interlacing boughs. 16 Lo! the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 the Day that the Horn is blown, and you shall come in crowds 18 and heaven is opened, having gates, 19 And the mountains shall be moved off so that they shall remain a mere semblance. 20 Indeed hell is lying in ambush. 21 a home for the transgressors, 22 Living therein for ages. 23 Nothing cool shall they taste therein, nor any drink. 24 except boiling water and pus, 25 Requital corresponding. 26 Behold, they were not expecting to be called to account, 27 And called Our communications a lie, giving the lie (to the truth). 28 And We have kept recorded everything in a Book, accounted for. 29 [So We shall say], "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
