He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 But what could tell you that per chance he might become pure (from sins)? 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 For him who does not care, 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 and fears (Allah), 9 you pay him no heed. 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 On honoured leaves 13 uplifted, purified, 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 We send down abundant water, 25 and let the earth to break open 26 to yield therein corn, 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 And dense gardens, 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 whereas some faces will be covered with dust 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
