The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the heaven and the night-comer 1 And what can make you know what is the night comer? 2 The very brightly shining star! 3 There is no soul but has a protector over it. 4 So let man consider of what he is created: 5 He was created of a gushing fluid, 6 issuing from between the backbone and the breastbone: 7 Now, verily, He [who thus creates man in the first instance] is well able to bring him back [to life] 8 The Day when all the secrets (deeds, prayers, fasting, etc.) will be examined (as to their truth). 9 Then he shall have no power nor any helper. 10 By the heaven which giveth the returning rain, 11 and by the earth ever bursting with verdure, 12 BEHOLD, this [divine writ] is indeed a word that distinguishes between truth and falsehood, 13 not a flippant jest. 14 Indeed, they are planning a plan, 15 and I too am devising a guile. 16 Give respite to the disbelievers and leave them alone for a while. 17
