Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Have you heard the story of the overwhelming event (the Day of Judgment)? 1 Many faces will be contrite on that day, 2 troubled and tired as a result of their deeds in the past. 3 Burning in the scorching fire, 4 their drink shall be from a boiling spring. 5 they shall have no food but thorns, 6 Which shall neither nourish nor avail against hunger. 7 [Other] faces, that Day, will show pleasure. 8 Well-pleased with their endeavour, 9 in a sublime Garden, 10 where they will hear no idle talk. 11 In it there shall be a flowing spring, 12 raised couches, 13 and goblets set forth 14 and arranged cushions 15 and carpets outspread. 16 DO, THEN, they [who deny resurrection] never gaze at the clouds pregnant with water, [and observe] how they are created? 17 how heaven was lifted up, 18 And at the Mountains, how they are fixed firm?- 19 And the earth, how it is made a vast expanse? 20 So render good counsel, for you are simply required to counsel, 21 thou canst not compel them [to believe]. 22 Save the one who turns away and disbelieves 23 Allah will chastise him with the most terrible chastisement. 24 Indeed, to Us is their return. 25 then upon Us shall rest their reckoning. 26
