Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the dawn, 1 And ten nights, 2 by the even and the odd, 3 The night as it advances, 4 Is there in that an oath for a mindful man? 5 Bethinkest thou not in what wise thy Lord did with the 'A'ad: 6 [the people of] Iram the many-pillared, 7 The like of which were not produced in (all) the land? 8 And Thamood, who hewed out the rocks of the valley? 9 and Pharaoh, he of the tent-pegs, 10 Those who rebelled in the cities, 11 and spread much corruption in the land. 12 Therefore thy Lord poured on them the disaster of His punishment. 13 For thy Lord is (as a Guardian) on a watch-tower. 14 As for the human being, when his Lord tests him, honors him, and grants him bounty, he says, "God has honored me". 15 But when He tests him by straitening his sustenance, he says: “My Lord has humiliated me.” 16 Nay, nay! but ye honour not the orphans! 17 and do not urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And ye devour heritages with devouring greed. 19 and you have a love of wealth which can never be satisfied. 20 But no; when the earth is ground to powder, 21 And thy Lord cometh, and His angels, rank upon rank, 22 And Hell will be brought near that Day. On that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance (then) avail him? 23 He shall say: O! would that I had sent before for (this) my life! 24 Upon that day none shall chastise as He chastises, 25 Nor shall any bind with His bond. 26 O thou peaceful soul! 27 Return unto thy Lord, content in His good pleasure! 28 Then enter the ranks of My chosen bondmen! 29 "Yea, enter thou My Heaven! 30
