Thamood cried lies to the Envoys 141 When their brother Saleh said to them: "Will you not take heed?" 142 “I am indeed a trustworthy Noble Messenger of Allah to you.” 143 Have fear of God and obey me. 144 'I ask of you no wage for this; my wage falls only upon the Lord of all Being. 145 Will you be left secure in this, 146 Within gardens and springs 147 “And fields and palm-trees, with delicate tendrils?” 148 Will you still skilfully hew houses out of the mountains? 149 "Be, then, conscious of God, and pay heed unto me, 150 and obey not the commandment of the prodigal 151 “Those who spread turmoil in the earth, and do no reform.” 152 They replied, "Surely you are bewitched. 153 You are nothing but a man like us. Bring us a token if you speak the truth." 154 He said, 'This is a she-camel; to her a draught and to you a draught, on a day appointed, 155 And do not touch her with harm, lest you be seized by the punishment of a terrible day." 156 But they cruelly slaughtered her - and then they had cause to regret it: 157 So the torment took hold of them: verily herein is a sign, but most of them are not believers. 158 And lo! thy Lord! He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful. 159
