The Night (Al-Layl)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the night enshrouding 1 and the day in splendour 2 And the creating of the male and the female, 3 Verily, [O men,] you aim at most divergent ends! 4 So for one who gave and practised piety 5 And believes in the best [reward], 6 We will indeed make smooth for him the path to Bliss. 7 But he who is greedy miser and thinks himself self-sufficient. 8 and denied the Truth of goodness: 9 We shall surely ease him to the Hardship; 10 and his wealth shall be of no avail to him when he perishes. 11 Indeed, [incumbent] upon Us is guidance. 12 And most surely Ours is the hereafter and the former. 13 I have warned you then about a raging Fire: 14 none shall enter it but the most wicked, 15 who denied [the truth], and turned away. 16 But the God-fearing shall be kept away from it, 17 one who gives his wealth to become purified, 18 And have in their minds no favour from anyone for which a reward is expected in return, 19 seeking only the Face of his Lord, the Most High, 20 And indeed, soon he will be very pleased. 21
