Said the chieftains of Firaun’s people, “He is really an expert magician.” 109 who seeks to drive you out from your land. What would you have us do?' 110 They said: "Put him and his brother off (awhile) and send out heralds to the cities 111 That they may bring to thee every magician knowing. 112 So there came the sorcerers to Pharaoh: They said, "of course we shall have a (suitable) reward if we win!" 113 He said, 'Yes, indeed; and you shall be among the near-stationed.' 114 They said: O Musa! will you cast, or shall we be the first to cast? 115 He answered: "You throw [first]." And when they threw down [their staffs,] they cast a spell upon the people's eyes, and struck them with awe, and produced mighty sorcery. 116 Then We inspired Moses, saying, "Throw down your staff." And it immediately swallowed up their false devices. 117 ۞ Thus the Truth prevailed and their false art was banished. 118 Pharaoh and his men were defeated and put to shame, 119 And the magicians flung themselves prostrate. 120 They said: "We believe in the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists). 121 The Lord of Moses and Aaron. 122 Pharaoh said, "You dare believe in Him before I have given you permission? Behold, this is indeed a plot which you have devised in this city in order to drive its people out. But you shall soon know the consequences, 123 "Be sure I will cut off your hands and your feet on apposite sides, and I will cause you all to die on the cross." 124 They answered: "Verily, unto our Sustainer do we turn 125 And what is it for which thou takest vengeance on us save that we have believed in the signs of our Lord when they came unto us? Our Lord! pour out upon us perseverance and cause us to die as Muslims. 126
