And recite unto them the story of Ibrahim. 69 He said to his father and to his nation: 'What do you worship' 70 They said, “We worship idols, and we keep squatting in seclusion before them.” 71 He asked them, "Can the idols hear you when you pray to them 72 “Or do they benefit you or harm you?” 73 They said, 'Nay, but we found our fathers so doing.' 74 He said: Have you then considered what you have been worshipping: 75 you and those ancient forebears of yours? 76 Surely they are enemies to me, but not (so) the Lord of the worlds; 77 who created me, and Himself guides me, 78 And Who feedeth me and watereth me. 79 He who cures me when I am ill; 80 He who will cause me to die and bring me back to life; 81 And Who, I hope, will forgive me my mistakes on the day of judgment. 82 My Lord: Grant me wisdom, and join me with the good 83 And give unto me a good report in later generations. 84 “And make me among the inheritors of the Gardens of serenity.” 85 And forgive my father, verily he is of the erring; 86 And humiliate me not on the Day whereon people shall be raised. 87 The day when neither wealth nor children will be of any avail 88 except what is done in obedience to God with a submissive heart. 89 "To the righteous, the Garden will be brought near, 90 And hell will be revealed for the astray. 91 "And it shall be said to them: 'Where are the (gods) ye worshipped- 92 Instead of Allah? Can they help you or help themselves? 93 Then will they be hurled therein, they and the seducers 94 And the hosts of Iblis all together. 95 And they, while contending therein, shall say: 96 By Allah, of a truth we were in error manifest 97 When we equalled you with the Lord of the worlds. 98 And none led us astray except the culprits. 99 Now we have no intercessors, 100 no loyal friend. 101 (Alas!) If we only had a chance to return (to the world), we shall truly be among the believers! 102 Indeed in this is a sign; and most of them were not believers. 103 Verily your Lord is mighty and merciful. 104
