Jonah, too, was one of the Messengers. 139 When he left towards the laden ship. 140 and sailed away in a laden ship, wherein people cast lots. Because he lost, he was thrown into the water. 141 So the fish swallowed him while he did that for which he blamed himself 142 And had he not been of those who exalt Allah, 143 He would have stayed in its belly till the day the dead are raised. 144 ۞ Then We cast him on to the vacant surface of the earth while he was sick. 145 and We caused to grow over him a tree of gourds. 146 And We sent him towards a hundred thousand people, in fact more. 147 And they believed, therefor We gave them comfort for a while. 148 Now ask them (O Muhammad): Hath thy Lord daughters whereas they have sons? 149 Or did We create the angels as females while they were witnesses?" 150 Verily, it is of their falsehood that they (Quraish pagans) say: 151 "God has begotten [a son]"; and verily, they are lying [too, when they say,] 152 Did He (then) choose daughters rather than sons? 153 “What is the matter with you? What sort of a judgement you impose!” 154 Do you not understand? 155 Or have you, perchance, a clear evidence [for your assertions]? 156 Bring your Book, if what you say is true! 157 And they imagine kinship between him and the jinn, whereas the jinn know well that they will be brought before (Him). 158 Glory be to Allah (for freedom) from what they describe; 159 except for the sincere worshipers of Allah. 160 So you and your deities 161 shall not be able to tempt anyone away from Allah 162 Save him who is to burn in hell. 163 (Those ranged in ranks say): "Not one of us but has a place appointed; 164 and, verily, we too are ranged [before Him in worship]; 165 and, verily, we too extol His limitless glory!" 166 And surely they used to say: 167 If we had but a reminder from the men of old 168 then were we God's sincere servants.' 169 But when it came to them, they rejected it. They shall soon come to know (the end of such an attitude). 170 And surely Our word has gone forth respecting Our servants, the messengers: 171 That verily they! they shall be made triumphant. 172 And that Our forces,- they surely must conquer. 173 So withdraw from them (O Muhammad) awhile, 174 And (then) see them, so they too shall see. 175 So are they being impatient for Our punishment? 176 When it lights in their courtyard, how evil will be the morning of them that are warned! 177 And leave them for a time. 178 And (then) see, for they too shall see. 179 Exalted be your Lord, the Lord of Glory, above what they attribute to Him, 180 Peace be with the Messengers (of God). 181 And praise belongs to Allah, Lord of the Worlds. 182
