He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 Unto him thou attendest. 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 Then when He pleases, He will bring him back to life. 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 And cause the grain to grow therein 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 and olives and palms, 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 And fruits and herbage 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 his mother and his father, 35 wife and sons, 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 and covered by darkness. 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.
End of Surah: He Frowned ('Abasa). Sent down in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
