Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Ha. Mim. 1 By the luminious Book. 2 that We have revealed the Quran on a blessed night to warn mankind. 3 In the (Night) is made distinct every affair of wisdom, 4 As commands from Us. It is indeed We who send (messengers), 5 A mercy from your Lord; indeed He only is the All Hearing, the All Knowing. 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and that between them, if you would be certain. 7 La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He). It is He Who gives life and causes death, your Lord and the Lord of your fore-fathers. 8 In fact, the unbelievers have doubts because of excessive involvement in worldly affairs. 9 But watch thou (O Muhammad) for the day when the sky will produce visible smoke 10 Which would envelope mankind. That would be a grievous affliction. 11 Thereupon they will say, “O our Lord! Remove the punishment from us – we now accept faith.” 12 How should they have the Reminder, seeing a clear Messenger already came to them, 13 Yet they turned their backs on him and said: One taught (by others), a madman. 14 We shall remove the torment for a while but you will revert to your old ways. 15 The day that We shall seize them with a grievous hold, We will indeed castigate them. 16 ۞ And indeed We tried before them Fir'aun's (Pharaoh) people, when there came to them a noble Messenger [i.e. Musa (Moses)], 17 Saying: Give up to me the slaves of Allah. Lo! I am a faithful messenger unto you. 18 Do not think yourselves to be above God: I have come to you with clear authority. 19 I take refuge with my Lord and your Lord lest you stone me. 20 And if ye will not believe in me, then let me alone. 21 (But they were aggressive), so he [Musa (Moses)] called upon his Lord (saying): "These are indeed the people who are Mujrimun (disbelievers, polytheists, sinners, criminals, etc.)." 22 Then (his Lord commanded): Take away My slaves by night. Lo! ye will be followed, 23 And leave thou the sea divided: verily they are a host to be drowned. 24 How many gardens and fountains they left behind them, 25 And crops and noble sites 26 And comforts of life wherein they used to take delight! 27 Thus (it was)! And We made other people inherit them (i.e. We made the Children of Israel to inherit the kingdom of Egypt). 28 So the heaven and the earth did not weep for them, nor were they respited. 29
