The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O you (Muhammad SAW) enveloped (in garments)! 1 Arise and warn, 2 And thine Lord magnify! 3 And thy garments keep free from stain! 4 And all abomination shun! 5 And show not favour, seeking wordly gain! 6 And for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 Then when the horn shall be blown, 8 That shall be - that Day - a day hard. 9 For the unbelievers, anything but easy. 10 Leave Me with him whom I created alone, 11 And gave him vast wealth. 12 And sons abiding in his presence 13 And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life]. 14 Yet he desireth that I should give more. 15 By no means! surely he offers opposition to Our communications. 16 I will cover him with arduous torment. 17 Verily, he thought and plotted; 18 And woe to him! How he plotted!- 19 And again perish he! How maliciously he devised! 20 He looked (at others); 21 then he frowned, and scowled, 22 Then turned he away in pride 23 and said: 'This is no more than traced sorcery; 24 This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 I will soon fling him into hell. 26 And what knoweth thou that which the Scorching Fire? 27 Naught doth it permit to endure, and naught doth it leave alone!- 28 making [all truth] visible to mortal man. 29 Over it are nineteen [angels]. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire. We have specified their number only as a trial for those who are bent on denying the truth, so that those who were given the Book might gain in certainty, and those who believe might increase in faith -- and so that neither those who have been given the Scripture nor the believers might have any doubts, and that those sick at heart and those who deny the truth might ask, "What does God mean by this parable?" In this way, God lets go astray whom He wills, and guides whom He wills. And none knows the forces of your Lord but He. This is but a Reminder for man. 31
