The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
CONSIDER this unfolding [of God's message,] as it comes down from on high! 1 your companion is neither astray, neither errs, 2 nor does he speak out of his desire. 3 It is naught but revelation that is revealed, 4 One of mighty powers hath taught it him. 5 Dhu Mirrah (free from any defect in body and mind), Fastawa [then he (Jibrael - Gabriel) rose and became stable]. [Tafsir At-Tabari]. 6 appearing in the horizon's loftiest part, 7 Then he drew nigh and came down 8 Till he was (distant) two bows' length or even nearer, 9 He revealed to God's servant whatever he wanted. 10 The heart lied not in that which he saw. 11 Will you then argue with him about what he saw? 12 And he certainly saw him in another descent 13 Near Sidrat-ul-Muntaha [lote-tree of the utmost boundary (beyond which none can pass)], 14 near unto the garden of promise. 15 When the tree was covered with a covering, 16 The eye did not turn aside, nor did it exceed the limit. 17 For truly did he see, of the Signs of his Lord, the Greatest! 18 Have you considered Lat and 'Uzza, 19 And subsequently the third, the Manat? 20 Is it for you the males and for Him the females? 21 That is indeed an unjust division. 22 They are nothing but some names that you have coined, you and your forefathers – Allah has not sent any proof for them; they follow only guesses and their own desires; whereas the guidance from their Lord has come to them. 23 Or shall man have what he wishes? 24 Allah's is the last and the first. 25
