The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
The Hour of Doom is drawing near and the moon is rent asunder. 1 But if they see a Sign, they turn away, and say, "This is (but) transient magic." 2 for they are bent on giving it the lie, being always wont to follow their own desires. Yet everything reveals its truth in the end. 3 They have certainly received the kind of news in which there is a lesson and strong words of wisdom, 4 a Wisdom far-reaching; yet warnings do not avail. 5 So withdraw from them (O Muhammad) on the day when the Summoner summoneth unto a painful thing. 6 their eyes will be humbled as they come out from their graves as if they were scattered locusts, 7 Rushing towards the caller; the disbelievers will say, “This is a tough day.” 8 ۞ The people of Noah denied before them, and they denied Our servant and said, "A madman," and he was repelled. 9 Then he called upon His Lord: “Verily I am vanquished; so come You to my aid.” 10 Then We opened the gates of heaven unto water torrential, 11 And caused springs to gush out from the earth, so that the two waters met totalling a quantity that had been destined. 12 And We bore him on that which was made of planks and nails 13 Sailing in front of Our sight; as a reward for the sake of one who was rejected. 14 And certainly We left it as a sign, but is there anyone who 15 Then how (terrible) was My Torment and My Warnings? 16 And We have indeed made the Qur’an easy to memorise, so is there one who would remember? 17 Ad treated (the truth) as a lie, so how (great) was My punishment and My warning! 18 On an unfortunate day We sent upon them a continuous violent wind 19 Plucking out men as if they were roots of palm-trees torn up (from the ground). 20 Then see how (dreadful) was My punishment after My warnings! 21 Hence, indeed, We made this Qur'an easy to bear in mind: who, then, is willing to take it to heart? 22
