The chiefs of Pharaoh's people said: Lo! this is some knowing wizard, 109 "He wants to get you out of your land, so what do you advise?" 110 They said, "Postpone [the matter of] him and his brother and send among the cities gatherers 111 to summon every wellversed sorcerer to you' 112 And the magicians came unto Fir'awn. They said: surely there is for us a reward if we are the overcomers. 113 He said, 'Yes, indeed; and you shall be among the near-stationed.' 114 They said: O Musa! either thou cast down, or we shall be the ones to cast down. 115 He said, "You throw [first]!" When they made their cast, they bewitched the eyes of the people and struck them with awe, for they showed a great [feat of] magic. 116 And We inspired Moosa that, “Put forth your staff”; it immediately began swallowing up their fabrications. 117 ۞ Thus the Truth prevailed and their false art was banished. 118 Pharaoh and his men were defeated and put to shame, 119 And the sorcerers fell down prostrate. 120 They said, "We have believed in the Lord of the worlds, 121 The Lord of Musa and Haroun. 122 Pharaoh said: 'Do you believe in Him before I permit? This is a plot that you have contrived in the city in order to expel its people from it. Now you shall know! 123 "Surely, I will cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides, then I will crucify you all." 124 They said, 'Surely unto our Lord we are turning. 125 Thou takest vengeance on us only forasmuch as we believed the tokens of our Lord when they came unto us. Our Lord! Vouchsafe unto us steadfastness and make us die as men who have surrendered (unto Thee). 126
