The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
(Muhammad), read in the name of your Lord who created (all things). 1 Created man, out of a (mere) clot of congealed blood: 2 Read: And thy Lord is the Most Bounteous, 3 who taught by the pen, 4 taught the human what he did not know. 5 And yet, but yet man is rebellious, 6 whenever he believes himself to be self-sufficient: 7 Surely to your Lord is your return. 8 Have you seen him who forbids 9 A slave when he prayeth? 10 What is your opinion – if he were upon guidance, 11 Or enjoined guarding (against evil)? 12 What do you think? Have you seen if he belies and turns away, 13 does he not know that Allah sees? 14 No indeed; surely, if he gives not over, We shall seize him by the forelock, 15 A forelock, lying, sinning. 16 So let him summon his helpmates; 17 We will call the angels of Hell. 18 No! Do not obey him. But prostrate and draw near [to Allah]. ۩ 19
