Nay, and by the moon, 32 by the retreating night, 33 and the dawn when it is white, 34 surely it is one of the greatest things 35 a warning to humankind, 36 alike to every one of you, who want to go forward or hang back. 37 Each soul is held in pledge for what it earns, 38 Except the companions of the right, 39 Sitting in the gardens, asking 40 And (ask) of the Sinners: 41 'What thrusted you into Sakar?' 42 They said, “We never used to offer the prayer.” 43 “Nor used to feed the needy.” 44 We plunged in with the plungers 45 And we used to call the day of judgment a lie; 46 until the Inevitable End [death] overtook us." 47 The intercession of the intercessors shall then be of no avail to them. 48 Then what is wrong with them that they turn away from admonition, 49 As if they were startled donkeys – 50 Fleeing from a hunter, or a lion, or a beast of prey. 51 Forsooth, each one of them wants to be given scrolls (of revelation) spread out! 52 Nay, but they do not [believe in and hence, do not] fear the life to come. 53 Nay; this is an Exhortation. 54 So, whoever wills may benefit from it. 55 And they shall not heed unless Allah willeth. He is the Lord of piety, and the Lord of forgiveness. 56
