He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 And hath fear, 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 Therefore let whoso will, keep it in remembrance. 12 On honoured leaves 13 Exalted, purified, 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 then causes him to die and buries him, 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 And olives and palms 29 And dense gardens, 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 And his mother and his father 35 And his wife and his children, 36 on that Day, to every one of them will his own state be of sufficient concern. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 whereas some faces will be covered with dust 40 and covered by darkness. 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
