The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ I do call to witness this City;- 1 and you are a lodger in this country. 2 and by parent and offspring, 3 We have certainly created man into hardship. 4 Does man think that no one will ever have power over him? 5 He shall say: I have wasted much wealth. 6 Does he, then, think that no one sees him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 And a tongue and two lips, 9 and guided him on the two highways? 10 But he has not attempted the ascent. 11 And what have you understood, what the valley is! 12 (It is) the setting free of a slave, 13 or giving food on a day of hunger 14 to an orphaned relative 15 or to a destitute lying in dust; 16 And to be of those who believe and exhort one another to perseverance and exhort one another to pity. 17 These are the People of the Right Hand. 18 As for those who rejected Our Signs, they are the People of the Left Hand. 19 over them is a Fire covered down. 20
True are the words of God the Almighty.
