The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Recite in the name of your Lord who created - 1 created Man of a blood-clot. 2 Recite: And thy Lord is the Most Generous, 3 Who teacheth by the pen, 4 Hath taught man that which he knew not. 5 Nay, but verily man is rebellious 6 for he believes himself to be self-sufficient. 7 Verily unto thy Lord is the return. 8 Have you seen the one who forbids 9 A slave when he prayeth? 10 Hast thou seen if he relieth on the guidance (of Allah) 11 Or enjoins righteousness? 12 Have you seen if he denies and turns away - 13 Is he then unaware that Allah seeth? 14 Let him know that if he does not desist, We shall certainly drag him by his forelocks, 15 A lying, sinful forelock! 16 Then, let him call (for help) to his council (of comrades): 17 [the while] We shall summon the forces of heavenly chastisement! 18 Nay! obey him not, and make obeisance and draw nigh (to Allah). ۩ 19
