Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the Dawn, 1 And the ten nights, 2 And by oath of the even and the odd. 3 And by the night when it departs. 4 Is there not an evidence in this for those who have sense? 5 Have you not heard of how your Lord dealt with the tribe of 'Ad, 6 of Iram, known for their lofty columns, 7 The like of which were not created in the (other) cities; 8 (Also consider how He dealt with) the Thamud, who carved their houses out of the rocks in the valley. 9 And Pharaoh, of the pegs (impaling his victims)? 10 who transgressed in the countries of the world 11 and worked much corruption therein? 12 Wherefore thy Lord poured on them the scourge of His torment. 13 for, indeed, your Sustainer is ever on the watch! 14 And as for man, when his Lord tries him, then treats him with honor and makes him lead an easy life, he says: My Lord honors me. 15 but when He tests him by straitening his means of livelihood, he says, "My Lord has disgraced me." 16 (Since wealth does not necessarily guarantee everlasting happiness) then why do you not show kindness to the orphans, 17 and you do not urge one another to feed the needy, 18 And ye devour heritages with devouring greed. 19 and love the riches, loving them ardently. 20 Nay, but when the earth is ground to atoms, grinding, grinding, 21 and thy Lord comes, and the angels rank on rank, 22 And Hell, that Day, is brought (face to face),- on that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance profit him? 23 He will say: 'Would that I had forwarded (good works) for my life!' 24 None can punish as He will punish on that day, 25 And His bonds will be such as none (other) can bind. 26 O the contented soul! 27 Return thou unto thy Sustainer, well-pleased [and] pleasing [Him]: 28 "Enter thou, then, among My devotees! 29 yea, enter thou My paradise!" 30
