The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
READ in the name of thy Sustainer, who has created 1 Hath created man from a clot! 2 Read! And your Lord is the Most Generous, 3 Who has taught (the writing) by the pen [the first person to write was Prophet Idrees (Enoch)]. 4 taught man what he did not know. 5 And yet, but yet man is rebellious, 6 for he thinks himself self-sufficient. 7 Surely your returning is to your Lord. 8 Have you seen him who forbids 9 a worshipper from praying? 10 Hast thou considered whether he is on the right way, 11 Or enjoins righteousness? 12 What is your opinion – if he denies and turns away, how wretched will be his state! 13 Knows he not that Allah does see (what he does)? 14 Nay! If he (Abu Jahl) ceases not, We will catch him by the forelock, 15 The lying, sinful forelock - 16 Then let him call his associates; 17 We will call the guards of Hell (to deal with him)! 18 Beware! Do not obey him, but bow in adoration and draw near (to your Lord). ۩ 19
