The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 Rise up and warn! 2 And your Lord do magnify, 3 and purify your robes, 4 And all defilement shun! 5 And do not confer favor to acquire more 6 But, for thy Lord's (Cause), be patient and constant! 7 When the Trumpet is sounded, 8 that shall be a Harsh Day 9 For the unbelievers, anything but easy. 10 Leave him to Me whom I created alone, 11 whom I have endowed with abundant riches, 12 And sons always present by his side, 13 and for whom I have smoothed the way (to power and riches), 14 and who still greedily desires that I should bestow upon him more. 15 Never! For he is an enemy to Our signs! 16 I will make a distressing punishment overtake him. 17 He reflected and then hatched a scheme. 18 May he be accursed, how he planned! 19 Again, death seized him, how was his determining! 20 Then he looked, 21 frowned and scowled, 22 then he retreated, and waxed proud. 23 Then he said: This is naught but enchantment, narrated (from others); 24 'this is nothing but mortal speech.' 25 I will drive him into Saqar. 26 And what have you understood, what hell is! 27 It leaves and spares no one and nothing. 28 Scorching the skin. 29 Above it are nineteen guards. 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
