Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
O you (Prophet Muhammad) wrapped, 1 Stand up in Prayer by night, all but a small part of it; 2 A half thereof, or abate a little thereof, 3 Or a little more; and recite the Quran (aloud) in a slow, (pleasant tone and) style. 4 For we shall charge thee with a word of weight. 5 Surely the rising by night is the firmest way to tread and the best corrective of speech. 6 Verily, there is for you by day prolonged occupation with ordinary duties, 7 And remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with [complete] devotion. 8 (He Alone is) the Lord of the east and the west, La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He). So take Him Alone as Wakil (Disposer of your affairs). 9 Bear patiently with what they say and with a fine abandonment forsake them. 10 Leave the prosperous disbelievers to Me and give them respite for a little while; 11 Lo! with Us are heavy fetters and a raging fire, 12 food that chokes and painful punishment 13 On the Day when the earth and the mountains will be in violent shake, and the mountains will be a heap of sand poured out and flowing down. 14 Lo! We have sent unto you a messenger as witness against you, even as We sent unto Pharaoh a messenger. 15 but Pharaoh rebelled against the Messenger, so We seized him remorselessly. 16 Then how, if ye disbelieve, will ye protect yourselves upon the day which will turn children grey, 17 And the heaven shall be split therein. His promise indeed must be fulfilled. 18 Indeed, this is a reminder, so whoever wills may take to his Lord a way. 19
