The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O you enveloped in your cloak! 1 Arise, and warn. 2 And proclaim the Purity of your Lord. 3 thy robes purify 4 And all abomination shun! 5 And do not confer favor to acquire more 6 And be patient for the sake of your Lord (i.e. perform your duty to Allah)! 7 Finally, when the Trumpet is sounded, 8 that very Day shall be a day of anguish, 9 For the unbelievers, anything but easy. 10 Leave Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 And for whom I appointed wealth extended. 12 and sons ever present with him, 13 and for whom I have smoothed the way (to power and riches), 14 And yet he desires that I should add more! 15 By no means! surely he offers opposition to Our communications. 16 I shall inflict on him hardship, 17 For he thought and he plotted -- 18 death seize him, how he determined! 19 Again, may he be cursed how he plotted; 20 Then he considered [again]; 21 then he frowned and scowled, 22 then he retreated and waxed proud, 23 He said, 'This is naught but a trumped-up sorcery; 24 This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 I will surely roast him in the Scorching. 26 And what could make thee conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It lets nothing remain and leaves nothing [unburned], 28 scorching the flesh; 29 Over it are nineteen [angels]. 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
