Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Ha-Mim. 1 By the Clear Book. 2 Behold, from on high have We bestowed it on a blessed night: for, verily, We have always been warning [man]. 3 Therein every wise affair is made distinct, 4 Amran (i.e. a Command or this Quran or the Decree of every matter) from Us. Verily, We are ever sending (the Messengers), 5 as a mercy from thy Lord (surely He is the All-hearing, the All-knowing) 6 the Lord of the heavens and the earth and of all that is between them: if you would only have sure faith. 7 There is only One Lord. It is He who gives life and causes things to die. He is your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers. 8 yet, they toy with their doubts. 9 So wait thou the day whereon the heaven will bring forth a manifest smoke: 10 That will envelop the people. This will be a painful punishment. 11 (They will say:) "Our Lord! remove the Penalty from us, for we do really believe!" 12 How can there be an admonition unto them, when surely there came unto them an apostle manifest! 13 Whereas they had then turned away from him and said, “He is a madman, tutored!”? 14 We shall remove the torment for a while but you will revert to your old ways. 15 However, We shall truly take Our revenge on the day when the great seizure takes place. 16 ۞ Indeed before that We subjected the Pharaonites to the same test. A noble Messenger came to them 17 Saying: Deliver to me the servants of Allah, surely I am a faithful apostle to you, 18 and do not exalt yourselves in defiance of Allah. I have come to you with a clear authority (as a Messenger). 19 And indeed, I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you stone me. 20 "But if you believe me not, then keep away from me and leave me alone." 21 Then he called upon his Lord: these are a people guilty. 22 Then (his Lord commanded): Take away My slaves by night. Lo! ye will be followed, 23 Leave the sea behind you parted; they are a host destined to be drowned." 24 How many were the gardens and springs they left behind, 25 And the cornlands and the goodly sites 26 And favours amongst which they were rejoicing! 27 Thus. And We caused to inherit it another people. 28 and neither sky nor earth shed tears over them, nor were they allowed a respite. 29
