The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the night when it envelopeth, 1 and by the day when it unveils. 2 and by Him Who created the male and the female: 3 Indeed, your efforts are diverse. 4 As for he who gives and fears Allah 5 for those who spend for the cause of God, 6 observe piety, and believe in receiving rewards from God. 7 But as for him who is a miser, and self-sufficient, 8 and rejects what is right, 9 We shall pave his way to hardship, 10 and what will his wealth avail him when he goes down [to his grave]? 11 Verily We take upon Ourselves to guide, 12 And truly, unto Us (belong) the last (Hereafter) and the first (this world). 13 So I have warned you of a Fire which is blazing. 14 None shall enter it but the most unhappy, 15 Who had denied and turned away. 16 But the righteous one will avoid it - 17 he that spends his possessions [on others] so that he might grow in purity 18 And none hath with him any favour for reward, 19 Except as seeking (to fulfil) the purpose of his Lord Most High. 20 He will surely be well-pleased (with him). 21
