He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 to a rich man, 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 You neglect. 10 Not this way – this is the advice. 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Noble and righteous. 16 Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. 17 Of what [stuff] has He created him? 18 Of a drop of seed. He created him and formed him according to a measure. 19 then eased his path for him, 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 and olives and palms, 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 And fruit and grass - 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 his consort, his sons, 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 Darkness shall cover them. 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
