He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 when the blind came to him. 2 And what do you know, he may be of the pure! 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 to him thou attendest 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 upon highly honored pages, 13 exalted and purified, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 Then We split the earth properly. 26 And cause the grain to grow therein 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 and fruits and fodder 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 Such will be the Kafarah (disbelievers in Allah, in His Oneness, and in His Messenger Muhammad (Peace be upon him), etc.), the Fajarah (wicked evil doers). 42
